Disking or cultivation: How to work residues into the soil more efficiently after harvest?

 

Post-harvest tillage has several goals: grinding and mixing plant residues with the soil, provoking germination of dead wood and weeds, preparing for the main tillage, and even closing moisture, depending on the actual condition of the fields. For this operation, disk and time units are used. The versatility of tillage equipment is an additional advantage. It means less investment and easier operation.

SWIFTERDISC universal disc harrows are multifunctional disc units designed for high-quality stubble shredding and pre-sowing soil cultivation and can operate in a wide range of conditions. The SWIFTERDISC line of disc harrows is represented by models from 1.75 to 18.4 m and has a wide range of equipment that allows you to adapt the unit to the individual working conditions of each farm. The SWIFTERDISC stubble cultivators are equipped with aggressive 520- or 560-mm diameter discs that provide a better chopping effect. The working depth of the SWIFTERDISC ranges from 2 to 14 cm.

 

The VERSATILL RPOFI cultivators are also versatile tools that can be used for stubble cultivation after harvest and for pre-sowing soil preparation. The VERSATILL PROFI cultivators are available in 6 or 7.5 m working widths. Different types of working tools and front equipment allow you to equip the cultivator with everything you need for specific tasks. The cultivators can be equipped with various front attachments: the Trash Cutter shredding roller or the Crushbar leveling bar. VERSATILL PROFI also has different versions of working tools: 200-mm lancets or 40- and 60-mm chisels. This cultivator works at a depth of 2 to 15 cm. The cultivator has 6 rows of working tines with 17 cm and a high ground clearance of 56 cm, which allows you to work through a large amount of plant residues. 

ACTROS disc cultivators offer an excellent combination of disc and chisel sections. This allows these units to efficiently cut and mix large quantities of crop residues and organic matter with the soil in one pass. After that, the chisel section provides deep loosening and mixing of the residues with the soil to a depth of 35 cm. As standard, these cultivators are supplied to Ukraine with Long-Life chisels for a longer service life. A great advantage of ACTROS disc cultivators is the ability to work without a rear roller. This solution allows the machine to be used in unfavorable conditions, including on waterlogged soil.

After harvesting grain crops, there is also the issue of uniform distribution of plant residues, moisture retention, and the prevention of the growth of dead wood. It is this type of agricultural machinery, such as harrow harrows, that is an effective, high-performance, and cost-effective solution for such tasks. The units operate at a high speed of 15 km/h on average and have a low fuel consumption of about 3 liters/ha. Harrow harrows can also be used for light spring tillage, moisture closure, and soil crust disturbance.

BEDNAR STRIEGEL-PRO range of power harrows is available in 6 to 12 m models. These tools work at depths of 0 to 4 cm and have 5 or 6 rows of 16 × 700 mm tines.  The STRIEGEL-PRO has several front attachment options for specific types of work and conditions. The STRIEGEL-PRO power harrows can also be equipped with the ALFA DRILL micro granulator for sowing cover crops or for applying micro granulated fertilizers.
